Magic Sort! is a water-sort puzzle from Grand Games in which you move colored liquid between bottles until each bottle holds a single color. The basic interaction is simple: select a bottle, then select where to pour. The puzzle is deciding which move leaves you enough room for the next one. What makes the bottle puzzle challenging?

A matching pair of colors can look like an obvious move, but the layers underneath matter too. Moving one top layer exposes another; filling a receiving bottle removes a possible destination. That makes the arrangement of the whole board more important than any single tidy-looking bottle. The game’s potion theme gives this familiar color-sorting problem its setting, while your immediate goal remains separating the mixed colors.

How to play Magic Sort

Check the top color of the bottle you want to move and the space in its destination. A pour needs a compatible receiving bottle: an empty one, or one with the same color on top, with enough available room. You cannot choose a buried layer without first clearing what is above it. Think about the next move, not just the current match

As a general planning habit, ask what a pour will uncover and where that newly exposed color could go. An empty bottle gives you temporary working space; using it is helpful when you have a plan for freeing it again. For example, moving a top color away may reveal the color you need elsewhere, but the move is less useful if every compatible destination is already full. These are planning principles, not a guaranteed solution for a particular level.

If your moves keep returning to the same arrangement, pause and compare the board before and after each pour. Look for a change that opens a useful destination instead of simply relocating the same stack.
